This year, U.S. Bridge was proud to take home the 2018 Special Bridge Award by National Steel Bridge Alliance.
Honoring Technological Advancement in Bridge Building
A division of the American Institute of Steel Construction, the National Steel Bridge Alliance honors top-tier construction companies each year as part of the Prize Bridge Competition, a prestigious industry awards program. In 2018, the organization bestowed the distinguished title of “Special Award Winner—Technological Advancement” on U.S. Bridge for its work on a folded steel plate girder bridge in Muskingum County, Ohio.
For this state-of-the-art project, U.S. Bridge created a lightweight, durable short-span bridge utilizing steel tub girders and the SPS Deck system. The bridge was assembled in just 26 days, saving Muskingum County residents from a prolonged and inconvenient road closure. The speedy construction was due in part to the fact that the modular structure was fabricated off-site. Additionally, the lack of horizontal surface means that the bridge is less likely to flood. Experts estimate that the bridge will last 100 years.
“Using innovative construction practices to beat out conventional construction methods goes to show that engineers shouldn’t accept the status quo,” said competition judge Frank Russo, PE, Ph.D., of Michael Baker International.
The 2018 Special Bridge Award by National Steel Bridge Alliance recognized U.S. Bridge for its outstanding use of structural steel. U.S. Bridge accepted the honor at a special ceremony in Baltimore.
